Regardless of where they’re located, the Edifier R2000DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers look great. The styling and quality of finish are well ahead of what we’d been expecting at the price point. The glossy curved side panels are nicely matched by the textured finish on the front, top and rear surfaces, while the angled-back design adds a touch of elegance. The styling works with or without the grilles and we noticed no sonic issues whatsoever when they were in place.

Just like many similar speakers, the amplifier, inputs and controls are on the back of one speaker, with a cable running to the second passive speaker. In a nod to higher quality and potentially better fidelity, the connection between the speakers is through a thick cable with dedicated connectors on both ends. Front mounted controls total exactly zero (bar an indicator light), the action is all around the back, or preferably through the small remote control. While the speakers can theoretically be operated via the rear controls, life is dramatically easier if you use the remote.

The fidelity is high enough to tick that box. Improvement is of course easy. Basically, these speakers offer astonishing value for money. There is no evidence whatsoever that the manufacturer cut any corners. It’s quite the opposite, in fact, Edifier’s engineers have made some very cunning judgment calls here, allocating the parts budget about as effectively as I’ve ever heard or seen at this level.

The Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Speaker System is essentially a 5.1 surround sound system which you can use as an entry/ mid-level home cinema theatre system. The speakers are all THX-certified theatre speakers which deliver cinema-like quality sound. They are compatible with TV and surround sound setups for DVD or Blu-Ray devices, as well as for PC gaming. The sound performance of the Z906s is really good and easily fills up your room with rich surround sound. The speakers deliver crisp highs and incredibly deep bass responses which can make your room shake. Watching movies using the Z906 system was a tremendously fun and enjoyable experience. The Z906 has a slightly warmer sound signature and is more suited for bass heavy music genres, but are also capable of producing detailed midrange without sounding muddy at all.

Vocal performances on the Z906 sounded almost life-like with extremely good soundstage and music separation. You can practically hear details in the music which you never thought existed in your music before. Although these speakers are not the best surround sound speakers on the market, we were very impressed with the sound quality and crisp vocals from the Z906.

The Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System presents a serious bang for your buck in terms of features and specs. To start with, the speakers have magnetic shielding to properly deal with audio distortions. The entire system has a wide-range frequency response of 28 Hz to 50kHz. Its surround sound performance is noteworthy that it might even be an ideal choice for entry-level and pretty much everyone except for rare hardcore expert audiophile (that require systems twice or three times the cost).

The speaker comes with one RCA to 3.5mm audio plug which can plug into your computer, your phone (as long as it still has a 3.5mm audio jack), or anything else that will create audio via a 3.5mm port. You can attach a second device via the second RCA inputs provided you have the necessary cables. The speakers are both completely magnetically shielded, so you can place them next to your computer and monitor without fear. The speakers also come with a small remote control that allows you to adjust the volume as well as mute the speakers.

Bookshelf speakers range in price from the very cheap (which are usually very cheap for a reason) to the exorbitantly expensive. Edifier has priced the R1280T speakers at a good price, especially when you consider the solid construction and huge sound that these speakers put out. If you need a new and rather good pair of bookshelf speakers, whether it be for your computer, your stereo, or just a nice pair of speakers to plug into your phone, the Edifier R1280T bookshelf speakers are worth a look. You’ll get some really good sound at an affordable price with a pair of speakers that are easy to set up and use.
