Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep review

Tommee Tippee is synonymous with bottles, cups and beakers. It produces a wide-ranging collection of popular baby feeding products and over time they have won many awards and respect among parents (especially mums). The Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine is a machine that makes a ready-to-drink baby’s bottle in less than two minutes. You read correctly, under two minutes! It has been billed as a great buy for busy parents who want a fast and accurate way to make a baby’s bottle. And the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep delivers and delivers well.  It is aimed at parents who are ready to make the move to formula milk.

Let’s be honest here, that statement is a selling point in itself and it does stand out to anyone who’s been up at 3am with a crying baby waiting for a freshly-made, boiling hot, bottle to cool. It is fair to say that you may be thinking, “great concept, a bottle made in less than two minutes, but does it work? Could this machine be the saviour from sleepless nights? Can I regain some sort of sleep pattern back?”

Does the perfect prep machine work?

Yes, it does!! It actually heats up a bottle to the perfect room temperature in two minutes, 2  minutes! In addition to that, the filter system filters out and removes any impurities in the water plus a hot jet of water kills the bacteria that could be in the formula milk, and that alone in our opinion, turns the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep in a must-have product for any formula using mum and/ or dad.

Setting up the perfect prep

The initial set-up and cleaning process for the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep is supposed to last roughly 10 minutes but in actual fact, it takes a little longer. This is in itself not an issue as you need to familiarise with the unit and it serves as a learning curve. It is very easy to do and pretty much common sense. Simply put, fill the unit with water, then press the cleaning mode button and just wait for boiled water to fill the container. After this, discard the water and then put the filter in water until all the bubbles are gone and then fit it into the water hopper. To finish off, press the start/stop button as the remaining water fills the jug, and you’re done.

Does it do what it claims?

Anybody will be able to use the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep without a problem.  You just fill the tank with cold water (make sure it’s cold, otherwise the temp warning light may come on) and then simply select the amount of formula you want on the dial. With the bottle placed in the slot, you press the start/stop button and all there is to it is to wait for the boiling water to fill the bottle. After that, you just remove it carefully, as the water is heated to 70c, and then add the correct amount of formula. Shake and place back and press the start/stop button again until it beeps twice.

It will then add cold water to bring the bottle to the perfect temperature. Tommee Tippee has set at 23c or roughly room temperature, but always check the temperature before serving for safety. It’s worth noting here that if you don’t put the bottle back in the slot on the Perfect Prep within two minutes, it will beep very loudly and you’ll have to make a fresh bottle. And to be honest, late at night with your baby hungry, it is the last thing you want to do.

Is the bottle the correct temperature?

Yes, it is and the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep should never make a bottle that’s too hot for you baby. Every bottle we made in our test was at room temperature. On a personal note, it would be nice if you could adjust the heat settings because as your child grows up he/she will be able to handle warmer milk. However, that is a minor personal preference which I agree it is not something I would consider necessary.

Can you use it for all types of bottles and formulas?

Yes, the dish that holds the bottle has a large enough surface area to fit most, if not all bottle sizes in the market.  Additionally, there is no limit to what formula can be used.

Is it good for travelling?

Yes and no and this very much depends on your personal circumstances and travel arrangements. The Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep isn’t much smaller than the Tommee Tippee Steriliser which means it is quite big in size. If you want the convenience of having a feed ready in two minutes alone, it is worth travelling with, and one will always find a way to make room for it.

Verdict

Overall a superb product and super easy to use! It is expensive for a product that does the same thing than a kettle and thermometer, but the ease and speed that the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep provides to any parent makes this a must-buy! The only thing we would say against the machine is that it should have an adjustable volume bar as the beeps are far too loud. This again it is open to personal taste and some people will find it too loud, others won’t even mind. All in all, it is conclusively, an irresistible product.
