The Rexing V1 Dash Cam is a wedge-shaped camera that sticks directly to your windshield with the upper side of its casing, it doesn’t need a mount, thus allowing for a more discreet installation.
Due to its wedge shape, the Rexing V1 Dash Cam is one of the stealthiest dashboard cameras available. It sticks directly to the windshield via a very small adhesive bracket (in our product image above, this is the near-rectangular plastic piece just above the lens).
Image quality is good at daytime. Colours are vivid, making for an attractive video. Be aware though that license plates are a bit hard to make out when driving by. At night, video quality is average to fair, depending a lot on lighting conditions — on a dark road in the countryside, you probably won’t see very much, while visibility is decent in brightly lit areas. Audio quality is good.
It is quite easy to remove the camera from the bracket by simply sliding it back. Take care when you install the unit to leave about an inch of space for this purpose. After installation, the vertical inclination of the lens can then be adjusted by turning a rotating knob on the side of the camera.
Note that the Rexing V1 Dash Cam comes with ports for an optional rear camera and for an external GPS unit. An external GPS unit is available separately. The rear camera doesn’t appear to have been released yet though — we’ll update this review when it is.
Feature-wise, all the dash cam “must haves” are there, such as auto on/off, loop recording, date/time stamp, and G-sensor. It also has a button to turn the display on and off, which is a nice feature that we haven’t seen in other dash cams so far (although most do turn off the display automatically after a set amount of time).
Overall, this is a decent camera, with a very discreet form factor and great usability. However, video quality is not the best you can get at this price. Also, the instruction manual of the Rexing V1 Dash Cam doesn’t seem to be the most accurate, but then again the camera is easy enough to use without consulting the manual.
