Amazfit Bip Smartwatch Review

Look no further if you’re in the market for an affordable smartwatch that does it all.

If you’ve ever tried an Apple Watch or any of the many Android smartwatches available, we can understand why you ‘d be unconvinced of a smartwatch that claims to have a 30-day battery life. As a matter of fact, you’re very fortunate if you can also get 2 days out of many (or any) smartwatches once you use them regularly on your day to day. However, the Amazfit Bip Smartwatch by Huami really does have a battery life of up to 30 days, although such statement very much depends on how exactly you configure it. Its price though, for what you get, is a real bargain.

It’s not the most/ quality durable offering, but it definitely can’t take on the richer, more interactive experience provided by watchOS 4 or Wear OS. On the other hand, you’ll likely be thrilled with simply just how much and how far this little gem of a watch can get you. The features and price range this smartwatch sell for, make Amazfit’s smartwatches a very attractive option.

The Amazfit Bip Smartwatch has a 1.28-inch display with a resolution of 176 x 176. With that, you get a heart rate sensor, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, built-in GPS, IP68 dust and water resistance, and incredible 30-day battery life. Some might say it is too basic, others will say it is all they need. The Amazfit Bip is made out of polycarbonate with a 2.5D curved display backed by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. A nice addition is that you get a soft 20mm lugs rubber removable strap in the box. This allows you to change the strap for any of the colourful options they provide for a more sporty or smart look.

Offering value for money

Where the Amazfit wins out compared to its competition is in delivering value. Retailing for well under $100, the Bip doesn’t have much competition in that price range. The watch’s 32g make it ultra-lightweight and that results in a very comfortable fit to the extent that one forgets you even wear a watch.

The most welcome feature about the Amazfit Bip Smartwatch is that it connects to Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app for notification syncing and tracking your day-to-day activity. The Bip is excellent mirroring web content to your wrist, but unlike Wear OS, the alerts aren’t actionable. The Bip doesn’t provide much in terms of third-party application support, but you do have the option to select different watch faces from within Mi-Fit.

The integrated GPS enables the Amazfit Bip Smartwatch to precisely map activities like walking, cycling, or running. However, you have to manually enable the workout from the watch itself. There’s also no choice to track swimming although it has an IP68 score. In addition to this, you get a heart rate sensor and also sleep tracking. What sets the Bip apart from various other smartwatches is the battery life. Amazfit estimates a 30-day battery life between charges, and that actually holds up in real-world use. We’ve only needed to charge the smartwatch once in over a month’s worth of continuous usage. Although the display screen isn’t as dynamic as what you get on Wear OS smartwatches, it is readable under bright sunlight.
